Love in a Box, 2021
Broken Hearts Exhibition @ The Soulard Art Gallery: January 12th-February 17th, 2024
In 2021, while working on 365, I took the “Love in a Box, 2021” photo. At that time, my goal was to take one photo a day during COVID-19 restrictions. Thus, around Valentine’s Day, I found one of my grandmother's decorations in a random box of tools. In my opinion this image represents love being “thrown away” into an empty box. Or it suggests, a heart in need of repair.
The image, “Undesired Cheesecake, 2021”, shows juxtaposition. Originally this photo was taken for my series, “Food in Strange Places”. After a daily run, I came across a piece of cheesecake, littered on the ground. Being that for over half a year, I had been capturing food in random places, I decided to take a photo.
Now that I am able to see my work from a different perspective, I can see that I enjoy capturing juxtaposing scenes.
Originally these photos were name based on their respective series. I changed the names to provide more context, and to fit the theme of the show, “Broken Hearts”. Overall, I am always thankful for the ability to showcase my art. In addition, it is great to know, that the art I created during the pandemic, is now being displayed.
